Ownership Dream Turns to Reality for Team Cywerbroke
The dream of owning a racehorse became a reality for team Cywerbroke when they were crowned winners of Racing and Wagering Western Australia’s (RWWA) Own the Dream initiative yesterday.
The team of 10 took home a $10,000 share in a yearling purchased at the 2020 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale yesterday.
Out of 85 teams in Own the Dream, Cywerbroke was randomly drawn to take home the grand prize which also includes two years of training fees covered for their share of the racehorse, along with the excitement of owning a racehorse.
Cywerbroke team member Debbie Justins said she was still in shock to be part of the winning team.
“My husband and I were in the team that came third in this competition last year, so to come out first this time is absolutely amazing,” Mrs Justins said.
“Three of our team members have never owned a share in a horse before, so to be part of this experience together and learn more about the industry has been quite special.”
Participants of Own the Dream have attended seven events over the past month – ranging from stud tours, stable visits and masterclasses hosted by Own the Dream Ambassadors Brittany Taylor and Brad Shepherd – with each event earning the hopeful owners a token in the draw.
Brad Shepherd said he has enjoyed being a part of an initiative breaking down the barriers of owning a horse.
“This competition really shows that you do not need to be a millionaire to be an owner. Whether you own 1% or 100% of the horse, you get the same thrill on race day,” Mr Shepherd said.
“The competition created a lot of interest, and I really enjoyed chatting to participants throughout about how much knowledge and insight they gained about the industry.”
“It was a great thrill sharing this experience with them, and hopefully it has brought more people closer to their dream of owning a horse.”
Second place, Matesforlife, received a $5,000 share in a yearling purchased at the 2020 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, and third place, Dashing Dreamers, received a $2,500 share in a yearling purchased at the 2020 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.
