Pacing Cup Flavour To Lord Mayor’s Cup
Beaten WA Pacing Cup quartet Minstrel, Patronus Star, Hampton Banner and Diego are set to back-up in this Friday’s $50,000 Lord Mayors Cup (2536m) at Gloucester Park.
Minstrel heads up the Group 2 event, where he will start from barrier two and looks set to get every opportunity to lead.
The Greg and Skye Bond-trained pacer finished a game fifth behind Wildwest in last week’s WA Pacing Cup, when he had to sit three-wide for the final lap.
Stablemate Patronus Star, who finished 10th last week, will start from barrier five this week as he looks to record another feature win.
Hampton Banner and Diego, two of the luckless stories from the Pacing Cup, will have to overcome back line draws in 11 and 12 respectively.
Roman Art, who has performed consistently this campaign, has drawn barrier one in what’s poised to be one of his toughest tests to date.
Bletchley Park, last week’s Parliamentarians Cup winner, faces a tough task from barrier eight, while his stablemate Golden State has drawn barrier nine.
Vultan Tin, who was runner-up to Bletchley Park last week, has drawn barrier 10.
Babyface Adda, Heez Our Perseus and Galactic Star round out the field for the feature.
Another highlight of the 10-race card is the Simmonds Steel Decorative Screens Fillies and Mares Free-For-All, where three-year-old Taking The Miki will take on the older mares from barrier one.
The Ross Olivieri-trained filly will start from barrier one and takes on Mares Classic winner Savvy Bromac (barrier nine) and Sheez Our Hope (12).
The Lord Mayor’s Cup card gets underway at 5.22pm.
