With Pacing for Pink coming to an end in WA for its first year, organiser Kath Harris has assured that the campaign will be back, with plans to make it bigger and better.
For its first run in WA, the team managed to raise $16,716 to be donated directly to the McGrath Foundation, to further fund and support those battling breast cancer.
“The goal was $15,000, so to surpass that is great for it’s first year.” Harris said.
“We will be doing the campaign again next year in May to keep it in line with Victoria,”
“Now that I have a grasp on what we can do with more lead time, I will look at doing a river cruise function and a golf day to do some fundraising.”
With each individual driver being sponsored separately, some sponsors decided to up the ante and add extra donations each time their driver won a race.
With Brendan Wilken pledging $25 for every winner Emily Suvaljko drove in the month of July, it saw the in-form reinswomen put a serious dent in his wallet, with Wilken contributing $450 towards the Pacing For Pink Fundraiser, with all proceeds going to the McGrath Foundation.
Gloucester Park pledged $100 for every win that their sponsored driver had at headquarters, with a further $300 going towards the campaign from his three wins at Gloucester Park for that month.
Michael Young Pacing further contributed $375 to the month-long campaign, with the fundraiser holding special meaning for the stable, with Young’s partner Kiara Davies fighting and winning her battle with Breast Cancer last year.
The silent auction raised a total of $1145 from just the six items in the online auction.
Kath Harris is currently training for the Telethon HBF Fitness Challenge, she is planning on doing a solo six-hour ride, however, Ryan Warwick, Deni Roberts, Dylan Egerton-Green, Maddison Brown, Gary Hall Jnr and Chris Voak will be joining her for a team ride. Each driver will ride for an hour each on the one bike.
