Parnham Favourite Close To Magical Milestone
Neville Parnham has a lot faith in Malibu Style and thinks he will win and reach a milestone at Flemington on Saturday.
Malibu Style lines up in the Listed Straight Six (1200m) and if he can fill a top four position he will go past $1 million in stake earnings.
A veteran of 65 race starts, Malibu Style is on the cusp of breaking that mark with $996,925 locked away from his 11 wins and 21 placings.
The Magnus gelding, a $40,000 yearling from the Melbourne Inglis Classic sale, is a firm favourite of the Parnham stable.
“Obviously he is a favourite of ours and been a good racehorse from the start,” Parnham told Tabradio.
“He does like the east coast conditions and he has raced very well over there, winning the majority of his money there.
“All the owners will be chuffed if he can get over the mark on the weekend.”
Malibu Style won the Listed Crawford Stakes (1000m) in Perth four years ago before Parnham took him east.
In Melbourne he added three more Listed wins in the Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m), the Doveton Stakes (1000m) and the Victorian Sprint (1200m).
Parnham says Malibu Style will be at his best in the Straight Six and at peak fitness after four runs this preparation.
“I actually think he can on Saturday,” Parnham said.
“It’s taken a few runs to find his best form.
“If he is strong to line and I think he can, he should run in the money.”
Against 14 horses in the Straight Six, Malibu Style has drawn barrier eight. Jockey Ben Thompson reclaims the mount.
He partnered Malibu Style to win the Doveton Stakes at Sandown two years ago.
Parnham rates Great Again and Home Of The Brave as the biggest threats to Malibu Style.
With Tabtouch, Malibu Style is at $7.50.
