Placid Ark Stakes Day Review
Top Tipsters
It was a tough day for favourite backers at Ascot on Saturday, with only two of the fancied chances saluting.
Roughies and longshots dominated the racetrack and those with a sharp eye for value took advantage in Racing WA’s tipping competition.
At the top, it was a tale of two tapes.
There were some blistering performances early, none more so than ‘Battery’, flying out of the boxes with five collects in the first five races, which included three winners.
His bold strategy to use his “Big Bet” ($50 each way) in Race 1 paid dividends with Holy Enchantment saluting at $11.50 for the win and $2.80 for the place.
He looked home and hosed with a $200 advantage over his nearest rival until race 6. Then the swoopers came!
ScottMG74, Dossyboii23 and Fonzikat timed their runs to perfection to claim the podium.
The three proven jets went bang-bang in quick succession nailing the winners of the Jungle Mist Classic and the Colonel Reeves Stakes.
Four-year-old mare Amber Glide saluted at an eye-watering $19.40 before Hot Zed got the chocolates at $14.10.
All that could separate them were scattered placings throughout the race day.
In the end, the weekly prize landed with ScottMG74, a brilliant reward for an outstanding effort.

Alex Vlahos
It was an outstanding weekend from The Races WA’s own, Alex Vlahos.
Alex only had one winner but made it count in the day’s feature race.
Ripcord ($12.30/$3.00) flew from last to take out the Placid Ark Stakes in a ‘Chautauqua-esk’ performance.
Considering the hype around the favourite ‘Oscar’s Fortune’, Alex’s form assessment in this race was both unique and accurate!
He had four further placings which landed him in the top 3% of tipsters.
He looks to back it up next week when we return to Ascot.
Brittany Taylor
Britt flew under the radar after a slow start but warmed to the task after the first 3 races.
She found the Race Four winner Mojo Rhythm which paid a massive $17.80/$4.10, before tipping a further two placings.
After a rigorous Melbourne carnival campaign there’s little sign of ‘winner fatigue’ from Brittany.
Lochie Taylor
It was a tough day at the office for Lochie, with plenty of unlucky results.
From the eight races, Lochie managed to find the placegetter in five of them, a sign of someone who knows his stuff.
Expect a huge bounce-back from Lochie this coming Saturday as we gear up for another big day of racing.
