Pinjarra Harness Racing Club and Community TAB to fundraise for Ovarian Cancer Research
Pinjarra Harness Racing Club and Community TAB have joined forces to raise funds for the Team Teal campaign supporting the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG), at their Easter Monday races on Monday 5 April 2021.
Funds raised will go towards ANZGOG’s Survivors Teaching Students program, a ground-breaking education and prevention program bringing ovarian cancer survivors into the classrooms of medical and allied health students, to share information about ovarian cancer symptoms, a women’s path to diagnosis and their challenges of living with cancer.
Pinjarra Harness Racing Club Manager Dale Putland said the club is proud to be associated with the Community TAB program and helping Team Teal raise funds.
“The harness racing industry in WA is a great supporter of the initiative and if lives can be saved, then it’s a no brainer to support the cause,” Dale said.
“Easter Monday has been chosen as our day to support the program, given it’s a public holiday here in WA, the club has a major family day programmed where up and coming pony trot drivers will race for fun, there will be an animal farm, face painter, kids corners with activities and of course great horse racing on the day.”
Community TAB will match funds raised on the day up to $2,000.
RWWA Chair Jeff Ovens said the positive effects of the Community TAB program have been extensive for regional WA, with 48 of WA’s race clubs based in regional communities.
“RWWA recognises that race clubs across WA play an important role in their community, contributing both economically and socially, with partnerships like these an example of the strong connection race clubs have within the communities in which they operate,” Jeff said.
“Community TAB is proud to play our part in giving back to the community, and our donation to Team Teal is just one of many community organisations that will be supported as part of the program.”
The Community TAB dollar matching program has been in effect from early 2015 and has since raised over $700,000 for not-for-profit organisations around WA through partnerships with local race clubs.
