Pinny Tiger Has Golden Aims
Trainer Michael Brennan’s confidence in progressive pacer Pinny Tiger is growing and has now got four-year-old feature races in his sights, following his blistering win at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
The gelding sizzled to the front in Friday’s Manning – G1 Winner Pace (2130m) from barrier six and scored a commanding 4.2m win.
The most impressive part of the win was the mile rate of 1:53.9.
Brennan said the son of Mach Three would keep improving.
“Every time we put him out for a break, he just matures and comes back better and better,” he told The Trots WA.
“We know he’s got speed, but now he’s getting stronger and his manners are getting better.
“The best part about what he’s doing is we think he’s better sat up.”
Pinny Tiger has built an imposing record of 11 wins and 10 placings from 29 starts, with six wins coming from his nine starts this season.
Friday night’s win followed a win at Narrogin three weeks earlier and a placing in the Narrogin Cup three weeks before that.
Brennan said Pinny Tiger would now head for a spell, before a campaign aimed at the Group 1 4YO Classic and Group 1 Golden Nugget later in the year, where he was confident his stable star would be more than competitive.
“He’s going to the paddock today and he will have a couple of starts before the first four-year-old race, which is the four-year-old Championship,” he said.
“He’s elite this horse and now that he’s gained that toughness he will measure up without a problem in the world.
“Only a handful of horses can run 1:54 at Gloucester Park each year and he’s done it in May.”
Pinny Tiger was among the nominations for Friday’s APG 4YO Consolation Final but is ineligible for the race after he missed the heat last month.
Brennan will have Miss Boudica in the $50,000 event and said he was confident the mare would be hard to beat regardless of the barrier draw.
