PUPPIES TO PUT ON A CLASSIC SHOW
Tonight’s Listed Greyhounds WA Puppy Classic Final over 520 metres has drawn together some of this state’s most exciting young talent and promises to deliver a wonderful contest.
Leading Trainers David Hobby and Chris Halse are well represented with three runners and two runners respectively while Hall Of Fame Trainer Linda Britton will be hoping the greyhound named after star galloper Seabrook can prevail.
The fastest qualifier out of last week’s heats was West On Brae who exited box two when leading throughout to defeat Our Seabrook by a length and a quarter in a time of 29.94 seconds. The third placegetter was Got The Swagger who ran a very cheeky race for Trainer Corey White and is a sneaky hope at big odds in tonight’s feature.
Stout Monelli overcame box five, checks in the run and a moderate get away to storm home and defeat West On Margaret by 3.5 lengths in a time of 30.00 seconds in his heat.
The son of Barcia Bale and Corona Monelli has been most impressive in his brief career starting 11 times for 7 wins and 3 placings.
He has come up with the coveted box one draw, an alley he has had once in the past when victorious.
While Corona Monelli is not a brilliant beginner he maps to get a lovely run on the fence and will be very strong over the concluding stages of the race.
Hobby also has Malawi Monelli and Dusty Monelli engaged in boxes six and seven. Malawi Monelli was a 30.08 second heat winner from box three while Dusty Monelli ran third behind Stout Monelli.
I am leaning towards Stout Monelli from the perfect draw. He will be punching the rails hard and finishing with gusto. Both West On Brae and Our Seabrook represent big dangers while Got The Swagger is worth including in to calculations at double figure odds.
It is a stellar night of chasing with a host of potential highlights including the clash between Casus Belli and Barefoot Tycoon in the Free For All over 715 metres, the debut run of talented Victorian stayer He Shall Power in race 5 and Cindy’s Oliver stepping back up to 600 metres in race 9. In race 11, the Free For All over 520 metres, Sir Monty, Sunset Toxic, Withers Monelli, Wise Thunder and All Zipped Up are likely to put on a wonderful show in the high grade sprint race of the night.
Earlier in the afternoon at the Meadows, fresh of breaking the 2nd and 3rd split records over 725 metres, the David Hobby trained Zack Monelli will compete in a heat of the Fanta Bale Super Stayers.
Zack Monelli once again runs in to Houdini Boy, the winner of last week’s Group 1 Zoom Top in race number 3 on the card.
Later in the card Tommy Shelby exits box five in race number 7, a heat of the Australian Cup where he is a $2.15 fixed odds favourite.
Fresh off running fourth in the Rookie Rebel last week Wallbanger has drawn favourably in box two in race 11,the last heat of the Australian Cup.
