Q&A with 2019 Wheatbelt Regional Heat Winner
Ladies travelled from all over WA to enter Fashions on the Field, for their chance to score a spot in the Final.
Bethany Brajkovich was the lucky winner of the Wheatbelt Regional Heat followed by Emilia Hyvarinen in second place and Kristy Jachmann taking out Best of the Locals.
Ms Brajkovich will now go on to compete in the WA Fashions on the Field Final to be held at Perth Racing on Saturday, 30 November.
WA Fashions on the Field caught up with Ms Brajkovich to talk about country racing and racing fashion, as well as the upcoming final, here is what she had to say:
1. What do you love about country racing?
I love getting out to country tracks, the fresh air, friendly locals and atmosphere are always so good that you have the best time. I also love the opportunity country racing gives you for a mini getaway to gorgeous places around our state.
2. How long have you been going to the races for and what are some of your favourite memories?
I’ve been going to the races since I was a teenager. I go to the races for two reasons, either with my family to have a big day punting and eating or for Fashions on the Field. Italian race day at Ascot is one of my favourite race days, I go with my Husband and Mother in Law every year and we eat, drink, buying goods from the food stalls and soak up the brilliant atmosphere. When I attend Fashions on the Field its always a girl’s day (or weekend). My favourite FOTF memory is from 2018 at the Pinjarra Racecourse. A group of us FOTF ladies came from all over the state and we made a weekend of it. We had a picnic under the huge gum trees by day and danced the night away to the live band, it was brilliant. Of course, winning last weekend at Northam is a moment I will never forget as well.
3. Why do you enter Fashions on the Field?
Originally, I started entering because I loved the fashion but over time it has grown into something more than that. WA Fashions on the Field is an opportunity for me to be me, separate from my role as a wife, mother, sister etc. It’s me time in the most fabulous way. I have made so many incredible girlfriends and the community of women (and men) who participate in FOTF are incredibly supportive, kind and fun on and off the track; I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of it.
4. Describe your style.
My style changes depending on the season, but I have always loved feminine shapes that are flattering and comfortable.
5. What tips do you have for people entering Fashions on the Field?
I encourage everyone to join in, it’s so much fun and a great opportunity to make some new friends plus it introduces you to a whole new part of the racing community and who knows it could become your new hobby.
6. What are some of your favourite things about the Wheatbelt region?
I have friends and family who live out here and I love to visit this region. During spring the flowers in the Wheatbelt are stunning, in fact, the scenery all year round is so beautiful I could spend days just wandering the landscape.
7. What does it mean to you to be going to ascot to compete in the final?
This is an absolute dream come true for me! I have been entering WA Fashions on the Field for three years now, so I am beyond excited. Best of all I get to celebrate this opportunity with my racing girlfriends from around the state on my home track. I cannot wait! Thank you so much for this incredible experience.
