WA Country Cups caught up with Ms Vasko to talk about country racing and racing fashion, as well as the upcoming Final, here is what she had to say:
1. What do you love about country racing? The best thing about country racing is the atmosphere. Most country venues are very good at facilitating to all patrons – either a picnic with family, a marquee, a day out with friends, or all of the above! At the Pinjarra Park racecourse was a fantastic band after the last race– casual and fun since you could sit back on nearby chairs and watch or have a little dance on the soft grass.
2. How long have you been going to the races for and what are your favourite memories? I have been going to the races for over 5 years now, however the most recent year has been when I became more involved in the fashion side and also the horse ownership side of racing. My favourite memory is at a function at the 1900 Bar at Ascot during the Own the Dream series. We had the opportunity to go right up to the barriers and watch the horses jump out – it was a surreal experience since just before they jump there is an eerie silence. Will never forget it!
3. Why do you enter Fashions on the Field? I first entered the competition because I wanted to build my confidence and presence in front of a group of people. I also have a keen interest in clothing and fashion so was a nice little excuse to delve into that hobby a little more and explore trends.
4. Describe your style? My style is a mix between classic and edgy. I like to think I can balance that out in a modern way and try to show something new and different with my looks.
5. What tips do you have for ladies entering Fashions on the Field? The best tip is to just have fun! Do it for experience and not to let a couple of losses weigh you down – it is all about the good vibes! Judging is personal and as long as you have a great time doing it with a great bunch of contestants that is all that matters.
6. What are some of your favourite things about the Great Southern Region? I love the wineries and the weather! I am a winter baby through and through so I love a cooler climate. When you mix that with a bit of cheese, wine, amazing scenery and racing, that it is my idea of complete perfection.
7. What does it mean to you to be going to Ascot to compete in the Wildcard semi-final? It is so amazing to have the chance to compete in the finals at Ascot. Royal Ascot would be an amazing experience so the opportunity to represent WA over there would be mind blowing. There is such an amazing group of finalists this year, I would see it as a true honour to be up on stage with them all.
