Racing Safely for Kody Charles – Greyhound Trainer
Greyhound Trainer Kody Charles is one of the 24,000 participants who is employed or participates in the Western Australian racing industry.
It is because of our industry participants, such as Kody, that we continue to do everything in our power to ensure we can continue to race safely throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a fourth generation racing participant, Kody has previously held a licence in all three racing codes, however he is currently training greyhounds full time, in addition to supporting his family’s harness racing operations, KTC Bloodstock.
“I absolutely love what I do, because I get to work with the animals I love every day. Working in racing has also given me the opportunity to be my own boss, and to work from home, which I enjoy.”
“I love training greyhounds as they all have their own personalities, and they bring so much joy to our lives. Recently, we were lucky enough to win the Group 2 WA Oaks with Cobargo at Cannington. I wish I could bottle up that excitement, thrill and emotion and share it with everyone.”
“COVID-19 has been a challenge for our family, as coming together at the track to support each other and our racing animals is everything to us. As we work long hours, spending time together at the track is valued family time, which I have missed. But overall, we have been very lucky to continue with our day-to-day operations.”
Since 16 March 2020, we have been working together as an industry to implement a range of strict bio-security measures to ensure the continuation of racing during COVID-19.
Once again RWWA would like to thank our racing participants for their continuous understanding and support through these uncertain times.
We are in this, TOGETHER.
