Ragazzo Mach Perth Bound
He’s the talk of harness racing in New Zealand and he’s on his way to Perth.
Ragazzo Mach is set to join Mike Reed’s stable, after a deal was finalised today to see him head west.
The three-year-old has taken all before him in New Zealand, recording five wins from seven starts.
His most recent outing was a second placing behind It’s All About Faith at Addington on February 12, where he ran home strongly despite being wide from the 600m mark.
Reed said he was excited to hear prominent owners Jim and Willie Giumelli had struck the deal.
“I spoke to Willie last week and she said they had their eye on a horse in New Zealand and then at the parade on Sunday she told me who it was,” Reed said.
“She called me today and said he passed the vet test and they had bought him.
“He will stay in New Zealand for their Derby and then we will get him here to Perth as quick as we can after that.
“It’s massive to have a horse like him for the stable as he’s the talk of New Zealand Racing.”
The NZ Derby will be run on April 9, while the WA Derby will be run slightly later this year on April 30.
The Giumelli’s have enjoyed some success with other New Zealand imports with Reed recently, headlined by Gran Chico, pictured above, Our Angel Of Harlem and Arma Indie.
Reed, who has enjoyed Derby success previously with Ace Of Spades and Tricky Vic, said he had spoken with Ragazzo Mach’s current trainer and warned the three-year-old would only get better with every start.
