Regal Power honoured at the 2020 Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards
Regal Power has added yet another accolade to his career after being awarded The Champion Middle Distance of the Year Award at the 2020 Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards on Monday 5 October.
In what was a tie, Regal Power shared the Award with Group 1 winner Fierce Impact.
The Grant and Alana Williams-trained gelding is the first Western Australian horse to be recognised at the prestigious awards since 2015, where Delicacy defeated Winx in the race for the Champion Three-Year-Old Filly of the Year Award. Sprinting sensation Scenic Blast was crowned Australian Racehorse of the Year back in 2009.
Sired by the stallion Pierro out of the dam Broadway Belle, Regal Power has had great success with Jockey William Pike for owners Bob and Sandra Peters, with the pair taking out the $5 million All Star Mile in March 2020, and the Group 1 Railway Stakes in November 2019.
Nature Strip took home top honours on the night, being awarded the title of 2020 Australian Racehorse of the Year.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding added three Group 1 titles to its cap, winning the Moir Stakes, Darley Sprint and the TJ Smith Stakes.
Nature Strip’s win ended Winx’s incredible four-year hold on the title following her retirement in 2019.
