Reigning Champion Draws Pole In Norms Daughter
Wainui Creek gets golden opportunity to record back-to-back wins in this Friday’s Cowden The Insurance Brokers-Norms Daughter Classic (2130m) at Gloucester Park.
The Greg and Skye Bond-trained mare has drawn barrier one for the $50,000 feature, which has attracted a stellar field.
Wainui Creek hasn’t started since finishing second to Savvy Bromac on October 22 and prior to that she had recorded four wins from six starts to commence her campaign.
Savvy Bromac, who enters the Group 2 event in terrific form, will have a tough task in overcoming barrier eight for trainer Nathan Turvey, who also has Mini Mine Yet in the race.
Reigning Mares Classic winner Balcatherine will also make her much anticipated return on Friday and has drawn barrier three, while progressive stablemate Alta Cinderella will start alongside her in barrier two.
Born To Boogie, who many have pegged as the in-form mare in the state, looms as a big danger to Wainui Creek in barrier 10.
The Ross Olivieri-trained pacer has won six of her eight starts in the state and is coming off a last start win which saw her beat the likes of Im Soxy, Alta Blues and Mirragon.
Olivieri also has Queen Shenandoah in the event, who has also drawn on the back row in barrier 11.
Trainer Barry Howlett also has two runners in the race in last start winner My Prayer and last year’s Mares Classic runner-up Star Of Diamonds.
The Free-For-All event of the evening is dominated by Gary Hall Snr, who has five of the 10 runners engaged.
Alta Intrigue has drawn barrier one, while Wildwest (barrier five), Gambit (seven), Ideal Liner (eight) and Alta Blues (10) make up Hall Snr’s quintet.
The three-year-old event earlier in the night is set to attract plenty of attention as well, with Hall Snr stablemates Finvarra and Jumpingjackmac to face off from barrier eight and nine respectively.
