Riverina Flash Gets His Chance
Driver Bailey McDonough is bullish three-year-old Riverina Flash can snap a nine race winless streak in today’s Alcoa Pace (2185m).
The gelding was taken back to last the rear of the field at Gloucester Park last Tuesday, before he ran on gamely to finish fifth despite failing to cross in the early stages.
Riverina Flash has drawn barrier one today and McDonough said he expected the son of Mr Feelgood to get every chance to return to the winners circle from barrier one.
“He should lead pretty comfortably,” he told RWWA Harness.
“On Tuesday he was very good.
“He got a bit lost down the back but he hit the line pretty well.
“He’s a definite winning chance.”
Prior to his fifth placing to Adda Spoilt Major last week, Riverina Flash produced two competitive performances behind Auckland Jet and Medieval Man on July 20 and July 27 respectively.
The Kyle Harper-trained and driven Medieval Man is again among the opposition again this afternoon.
Harper said barrier six would be tricky for Medieval Man to overcome but felt the gelding was going well enough to overcome it.
“He’s racing really well,” he told RWWA Harness.
“Stepped him up to city class last Friday and I really thought he needed to be on the rail to be competitive.
“He sat one out two back in quite a nice field and he ran on for a really nice fourth.
“He just seems to be improving every time he steps out.
“He’s got to find luck from there but he’s a good each way chance.”
Meanwhile, 16 runners have been nominated for Friday night’s Free-For-All event Gloucester Park where Chicago Bull is a notable exclusion.
The Gary Hall Snr-trained Chicago Bull will have a short break following his August Cup win on Friday night.
Hall Snr could still have up to four runners in the event with Wildwest, Ideal Liner, My Carbon Copy and Just Rockon Bye among the nominations.
Galactic Star, Handsandwheels and While They Pray also are among the group of pacers nominated.
WA Derby winner Patronus Star will look to continue his winning ways in the $50,000 Binshaw Pace and continue his lead up to the summer four-year-old feature races.
