DISTRIBUTION 2016/17
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) has approved a new racing season funding allocation of $145million for 2016/17; an increase of 5.5% from last year’s distribution of $137.4million.
Despite challenging economic conditions in Western Australia and a highly competitive wagering market, RWWA is committed to increasing racing industry funding by $7.6million across the three racing codes.
In addition, RWWA has allocated a further $7.5million funding for race club infrastructure work recognising the Government supported Race Club Infrastructure Grants Program (RIGP) and Royalties for Regions (R4R) funding programs have ended, resulting in overall racing industry funding for 2016/17 of $152.5million.
For the Greyhound Code the emphasis on distribution has been to support WAGRA through the offsetting of their vision costs. While WAGRA will continue to provide the vision for the next 12 months at least, RWWA will pick up the costs incurred by WAGRA to undertake this function.
There will be no stake increases this year however in consultation with WAGBOTA it has been agreed to raise the trainers subsidy for dogs placed 5th to 8th from $15.00 to $30.00 at all venues.
It has also been agreed to raise the payment to trainers when meetings are abandoned to $80.00
GREYHOUNDS AS PETS UPDATE
Unfortunately there has been a strong rumour floating around that GAP is not accepting Black Dogs.
THIS IS NOT TRUE.
Part of our rehoming strategy is to meet public demand, which at this time is for coloured dogs.
This does not mean however that GAP are not taking in black dogs, in fact most of the dogs in our kennels are black.
Entry into GAP is prioritised for greyhounds who have passed our pre-assessment and are proven to be safe with small dogs.
To find out more about how to enter a dog into GAP please contact gap@rwwa.com.au or 9445 5399.
