Sharp Looking For Geraldton Edge

Trainer Murray Sharp says fitness will be the key to stable mates So Cute and Mystery Glow turning the tables at Geraldton’s seven race card on Thursday.
So Cute and Mystery Glow suffered narrow defeats at Geraldton’s season-opening meeting two weeks ago, but Sharp believes they are primed to strike back.
So Cute came very close to snatching victory after dashing clear, but was grabbed in the last stride by Danehill Matilda and Clocker, finishing third by a short-neck.
The So Secret mare, with a conditioning run under her belt and one win from her sole second up attempt, looks hard to beat in the Purcher International Handicap (1100m).
“They both missed important trials so will strip fitter and be improved by the runs,” said Sharp.
“I have a lot of time for So Cute and believe she will develop into a handy mare.
“She was only beaten by a bob of the head and hasn’t gone backwards since the run.
“I really think she is going to be very hard to beat.”
So Cute, who possesses a record of one win and four placings from her seven starts, will start from barrier seven for jockey, Ryan Hill.
Mystery Glow also enjoys a consistent strike rate but with five placings from as many starts she is desperate to shed her bridesmaid status.
The Discorsi four-year-old, beaten a long-head by Lowlands Boy, has a top chance to breakthrough in the XXXX Gold Maiden (1100m).
“She is an honest mare who always tries her heart out,” said Sharp.
“She has four gears but I’m wondering if she needs a fifth?
“But I can’t fault her and she will put her best foot forward again.
“She’s in with a chance and if she doesn’t win she will run second.”
First-up specialist Big Clint meets a hot line up on his return in the Book Marquee Packages Now Handicap (1100m) with Helder The Painter and Thunder Express highly rated.
But with a fresh record of two wins and two placings from five starts, Sharp believes the seven-year-old deserves to be taken seriously.
“I can’t fault his work and you can’t ignore his first-up record,” said Sharp.
