Southern Districts Touch Association awarded Community TAB Sports Grant
3 April, 2019
Community TAB of Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) has awarded Southern Districts Touch Association a $2000 sports grant.
Southern Districts Touch Association was one of four sporting clubs to receive a grant recently, selected from over 500 sporting clubs that have applied from around WA.
Southern Districts Touch Association Club President Sarah Green said the grant will be utilised to support their elite open and senior representative teams compete in the WA State Championships.
“These teams have a successful history at this event, but in a user pays sport with ever increasing costs, we are always looking to try and offset these costs as much as possible and ensure players are not lost from the sport and our growing community,” Miss Green said.
“It means a great deal to the club and our representative players to be awarded this grant as it gives the club the ability to continue to develop its program, which is not just about competing at the top level in the State, but about developing and nurturing individuals and providing constant support.”
“The Southern Stars have been a fixture of the South Perth community for over 30 years now and has traditionally been one of the highest participation touch clubs in the State.”
“We strive to create an atmosphere for all members, from juniors to seniors, from beginners to the elite, a place in the community that can bring people together.”
RWWA CEO Richard Burt said the organisation recognises the importance of grassroots sports throughout WA.
“We understand that it takes time and resources to keep a club running within the community, so we are pleased to be giving the opportunity to help relieve this burden on clubs,” Mr Burt said.
Community TAB will provide at least one grant each month to a sporting club to further their contribution to the sport and recreation industry in WA. Once a club applies for a grant, the application will stay within the pool until the grant is awarded.
