Sprints The Future For Platinum Bullet
Sprint races will be the future targets for talented filly Platinum Bullet.
Trainer Simon Miller confirmed that’s the path chosen after she claimed the Events At Ascot Handicap (1000m).
Validating Miller’s move to switch Platinum Bullet back in distance, the three-year-old came up trumps when she sprinted strongly from fifth on the turn.
The third of four wins for champion jockey William Pike, Platinum Bullet defeated Alcina by a short-neck with Gunflint close behind in third.
Miller flirted with the idea of extending Platinum Bullet over the mile in last Saturday’s Listed Belmont Guineas, but had a change of heart after her previous run in the Raconteur Stakes (1400m).
She failed to flatter and after racing on-pace she faded to fourth behind glamour filly, Kay Cee.
Miller said Platinum Bullet, a $200,000 yearling from the Gold Coast, has the makings of a smart sprinter.
“I will definitely keep her at a 1000 and 1200m, she won’t go any further,” Miller said.
“I’m on record that she is a carnival horse and will win a stakes race.
“I’ve struggled to find consistency with her, but hopefully I’ve learnt something today.
“I would like to put her out, but I will go around one more time because of the Westspeed.
“But she will be kept to a short course.”
Meanwhile Chantrea is Belmont Oaks-bound after she maintained her unbeaten status in the Quayclean Handicap (1700m).
Posting her fourth win and second for trainer Lindsey Smith, the Puissance de Lune filly won by an easy 1 ½ lengths.
“She is still learning, but did everything right,” said stable representative, Donna Riordan.
“She is a lovely horse that relaxes so well in her races
“When Willie (Pike) pulled her out, off she went.
“I think she will be spot on for the Belmont Oaks.”
Earlier Elite Street got back on good terms with punters and made amends in the Perth Racing At Home Maiden (1000m).
The Dan Morton-trained three-year was heavily supported when first-up at Pinjarra last month, but finished unplaced.
Scoring his first win at his third career start, he charged clear and had the race shot to pieces passing the 200m.
Giving Chris Parnham the second-leg of a double, Elite Street defeated Drama Free and Miss Quoted, the winning margin 2 ½ lengths.
“I certainly hadn’t lost faith in the horse and he was the one you wanted to be on in the run,” Morton said.
“There were a couple of excuses first-up that found him out.
“But he is a high-class horse who will progress to a Saturday.”
