New Home For Long Beach
Brothers Chris and Michael Gangemi will get a good guide on their new acquisition with Long Beach to make his stable debut at Belmont on Saturday.
Long Beach was bought for an undisclosed sum off Bob Peters and the Gangemi’s believe he’s the type of horse that will help bolster their sprinting stocks.
“We think he is a talented horse and we were pretty keen to pick him up for long time stable clients,” Michael Gangemi told The Races WA.
“Our sprinters have taken a hit in recent weeks with Condor Heroes and Highland Beat having to be retired.
“Rock Magic is nearing the end and will bow out of racing at the end of the year in the Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).
“He (Long Beach) will go around and race this Saturday and if he goes well, he will be aimed at the Beaufine Sprint.
“He has come to us in terrific order and is fit and well.
“He’s run some nice races behind good horses in the past.
“We think he will go well and has a future.”
Long Beach won five races from 13 starts under the guidance of Grant and Alana Williams.
He’s had two races this preparation for Adam Durrant and finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Long Beach underlined his potential at Belmont last year with a winning hat trick.
One of his scalps was Nerodio, who has defeated This’ll Testya and Panzdown in his past two starts.
Long Beach ran second to subsequent Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) winner Elite Street last November.
The Gangemi team will be hoping he follows in the hoof steps of Battle Hero who was purchased from Peters in 2018 and won four stakes races for his new connections.
Long Beach will kick off his racing career for the Gangemi’s in a 78 + 1000m handicap on Saturday.
Nominations include the in-form pair Miss Conteki and Panzdown for trainer Simon Miller.
The former is unbeaten this campaign with four wins. The latter fell to Nerodio by a long-head last start, halting his winning sequence at four straight wins.
Classy colt Gemma’s Son resumes after a freshen-up.
The Beaufine Stakes (100m) is run at Belmont on July 10.
