After consultation with industry participants including the Western Australian Standard Breeders Association (WASBA), Racing and Wagering Western Australian (RWWA) is pleased to announce the 2017 Diamond and Pearl Classic has been extended to include a 3YO leg of the series.
In a timely move ahead of the upcoming Gloucester Standardbred Yearling sale at Belmont Park this weekend, this new initiative gives prospective owners further incentive to consider purchasing a yearling and encourages new participants to become involved in harness racing.
RWWA and WASBA also believes it will alleviate pressure imposed on trainers and their connections to buy a yearling and not be concerned about whether it will race, as in some cases not all juveniles are ready to race as two-year-olds.
2014 foals who are participating in the next year’s $100,000 Pearl Classic for colts and geldings and $100,000 Diamond Classic for fillies will be eligible for the $50,000 Pearl Classic for three-year-old colts and geldings and the $50,000 Diamond Classic for three-year-old fillies.
Yearling nomination fees of $165.00 per horse closes on April 30, 2016.
The 2016 Pearl Classic will be staged at Gloucester Park on June 3 and the Diamond Classic a week later on June 10.
