Star Perth Trio To Launch Melbourne Campaigns
Leading Perth owner Bob Peters says he’s taking a cautious approach to the return of his star gallopers at Caulfield on Saturday.
Regal Power and Arcadia Queen launch their Melbourne spring campaigns for Peters in the Group 2 P.B.Lawrence Stakes (1400m) respectively.
Regal Power, a son of Pierro, returns to familiar territory after winning The All Star Mile at Caulfield at his previous start in March.
Arcadia Queen steps out for her first appearance since completing a Sydney campaign under the guidance of champion trainer, Chris Waller.
The Pierro mare won the Group 2 Theo Marks (1300m) before finishing unplaced in The Everest (1200m) and Golden Eagle (1500m).
Regal Power and Arcadia Queen are both at $5.50 with Tabtouch for the Lawrence Stakes, Mystic Journey the $4.40 favourite ahead of Savatiano ($5).
Peters says he expects competitive runs from Regal Power and Arcadia Queen, but believes they could be vulnerable first-up.
“It’s a good start for the Melbourne spring,” Peters told Tabradio.
“But I think it’s a task against horses that have been racing to race first up.
“He (Regal Power) is not a first-up type of horse and it will be good to see him running home well.
“Running in the first three or four will be a pass mark for me in this race.
“All going well they will go to the Group 1 Memsie Stakes in two weeks.
“That will tell us where we are at with them then.”
Champion jockey William Pike has elected to ride Regal Power over Arcadia Queen. The five-year-old has drawn barrier six.
Arcadia Queen will jump from barrier four for Damian Lane.
Showmanship will also be part of Peters’ powerful brigade at Caulfield.
A winner in five of six races, the Showcasing gelding is the hot $1.80 favourite in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1400m).
