STAYERS STRUT THEIR STUFF IN THE MIATA HEATS
Three heats of the Group 3 The Miata over 715 metres highlight what is an excellent 13 race program at Cannington this evening.
The race which pays tribute to WA’s greatest ever chaser has drawn together three heats and WA’s best stayers as well as an in form interstate visitor.
In the first heat the talented South Australian Line Seeker creates a lot of interest.
The Bec Romyn trained chaser has been in splendid form with three wins and two seconds from his last five starts.
The son of Kinloch Brae and Esparza ventured west in December when beaten less than a length behind Grace Ali at Cannington in the Listed Greyhounds WA Christmas Gift.
He is sure to benefit for that run at the track and he has a superb record from box 8 where he has had 6 tries for 4 wins and a placing.
The X-factor runner in the first heat is the Enzo Crudeli trained Barefoot Tycoon.
He has looked well above average in his brief 10 race career which has produced 4 wins and 4 placings and he recently trialled before the stewards in a 520 metre trial stopping the clock in a slashing 29.54 seconds.
While there is a query as to whether or not the greyhound will run the trip given it is his first ever attempt his run home patterns did suggest that a longer journey may well be suitable.
Van Buren and Jett’s Cracker have also been racing consistently in recent times and head in with winning claims.
The second heat looks to be dominated by one of WA’s brightest stars in Zack Monelli.
Zack was having his first run over the 715 metre trip last week when he flew around the Cannington circuit in a best of night time of 41.82 seconds.
That time standard is far superior to what any of his rivals have been running recently and he is likely to salute at a very cramped quote.
It may be a similar story in the third of the Miata heats where Wicked Rhythm exits box one.
The Enzo Crudeli trained chaser has relished the step up to the 715 metre trip where she has had 4 tries for three wins and a second.
Her only defeat over this distance was at the hands of Zack Monelli last week and she stuck on well to be beaten by less than four lengths in a time of 42.09.
