– Extra Zero J: Mark Zahra T: David Hayes-Tom Dabernig Veteran nine-year-old who performed competively at the recent Melbourne carnival. He last raced in the Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) in October for a respectable seventh, just four lengths shy of Gailo Chop and earlier in his preparation ran a close up fifth to Preferment in the Turnbull Stakes (2000m). Has met support but wide draw a blow.
– Black Heart Bart J: Glenn Smith T: Vaughn Sigley The Blackfriars gelding won three consecutive feature races before a top fourth in the Railway Stakes when he had too much ground to recover against an on-speed bias. Deserves to have Group 1 status against his name but failure to win beyond 1400m remains a small query.
– Tower Of Lohnro J: Joe Azzopardi T: Adam Durrant Consistent galloper but a rung under elite company. Outclassed in the Railway Stakes when conditions didn’t suit but has been gifted ideal draw.
– Magic Artist J: Damien Oliver T: Andreas Wohler German galloper who is searching for an ounce of luck at his third Australia start after dual Group 1 fourths in the Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) and Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington. He was kept out of the Railway Stakes and specifically set for this race after failing to get an invite for the Hong Kong Cup. Perfect draw and rates as one of the main chances.
– Bass Strait J: Pat Carbery T: Neville Parnham He ran a respectable sixth behind Moriarty in this race last year but his form this time in is not as strong and sharp improvement required. Looks to have the task ahead of him.
– Woodsville J: Jarrad Noske T: Jeff Noske Kalgoorlie Cup champion who is into his second run this campaign that is aimed towards the Perth Cup. Not likely.
– Hazzabeel J: Damian Lane T: Dan Morton He was just edged out for third in the Railway Stakes after sitting behind leader and eventual winner, Good Project. Will press forward from good gate and be in front for a large portion of the race but a query at 1800m.
– Dark Musket J: Jason Whiting T: Graeme Ballantyne Belmont Classic winner in the winter who is stepping up to his preferred distance range but looks outclassed in this line up.
– Balmont Girl J: Shaun O’Donnell T: Paula Wagg Outstanding mare who never knows how to run a bad race and charged home for third behind Good Project in the Railway Stakes. Racing in good enough form to give this a shake and ideally drawn.
– Real Love J: Chris Parnham T: Adam Durrant Another that was at a disadvantage against a bias track in the Railway Stakes when seventh and 3 ¼ lengths astern of Good Project. Class mare who can bounce back and will be improved stepping up in distance.
– Delicacy J: Peter Hall T: Grant Williams. You have to rule a line through her run in the Railway as the back markers had no chance to make up ground on the winner. Class mare who should be at her peak third run in and looms as one of the major chances despite wide draw.
– Neverland J: Douglas Whyte T: Grant Williams Gun mare who has yet to miss the money in eight starts and has not been beaten in three starts this campaign. Faces biggest test but having the services of world renowned jockey won’t harm her prospects.
– Man Booker J: Jerry Noske T: Dan Morton Fought hard to win WA Guineas after overcoming wide barrier. He will have to lift another notch but light weight, good gate and three-year-old record in the race can’t be ignored.
– London Line J: Brad Parnham T: Dan Morton Consistent type who won two in a row before attacking the line strongly for fourth behind stable mate Man Booker in the WA Guineas; however, this is no easier.
– Blackwood J: Steven Parnham T: Fred Kersley Top filly who stormed home from near last in the WA Guineas, finishing fifth and 2 ½ lengths from Man Booker in race fastest final 600m. Tough from outside gate but she will be charging to the line late.
– Perfect Reflection J: William Pike T: Grant Williams She looks to have a touch of class and ticks the right boxes with light weight, top jockey, explosive turn-of-foot and unbeaten record. Top claims.
