The Pinjarra Harness Review
It was a successful day out for Team Bond at Pinjarra on Monday, with the leading stable taking out four of the eight races on the card. With five horses engaged in four races, they even managed to get the quinella in race seven.
Starting first up after a lengthy spell, Mandoza NZ sailed away for an easy victory for driver Ryan Warwick, leading all the way in the open maiden by 33.8m in 1:58:8 for trainers Greg and Skye Bond.
Don’t Bother Me None NZ made it three in a row, and recorded his sixth win from seven starts this season when the impressive three-year-old sat outside the leader and race favourite throughout to win by 4.8m in an quick 1:54:0 over the 1684m journey in heavy conditions.
Piloted by stable driver Deni Roberts, the $26 shot Sagano NZ was able to run down the stablemate and short-priced favourite See Ya Write NZ, giving Bonds’ the quinella in race seven. In a mile rate of 1:58:2, Roberts had the mare settled three back on the pegs and made full use of the sprint lane to win by 1.1m in the penultimate.
Double Up NZ made it four in a row, with the $1.30 favourite taking out the standing start for Ryan Warwick and Team Bond. After galloping out, Warwick got the gelding back in to his gear quickly and around 1600m from home, he was able to get to the lead, going on to win comfortably in the last by 2.9m in 2:01:2, with the win giving Ryan Warwick a driving treble on the day.
Also walking away with driving honours was local reinsman Chris Voak, who steered home three winners for three different trainers at the Paceway.
In the first, Voak joined forces with Busselton trainer Barry Howlett, with the short-priced favourite Son Of A Whiz NZ taking out the trotters race. After showing gate speed from barrier 4, an indiscretion from Luvaflair meant Voak could slot in behind the leader and approaching the home turn, Voak put the four-year-old three wide to win by 1.9m in 2:02:4. After a year stint in Victoria, Son Of A Whiz NZ has since returned to WA for two wins in three starts.
Voak made it a running double when he piloted the Frank Vanmaris trained Ghostwriter to victory in race two. The three-year-old maiden broke through for his maiden win at just his fourth race start in a mile rate of 1:56:8 over the 1684m sprint journey.
The last leg of his driving treble came up in race four when he steered home Roma Rosa NZ for local trainer Michael George. The $1.60 favourite led all the way from barrier one, giving the mare her first victory in WA since arriving from New Zealand earlier in the year.
Strike Master NZ caused a boil over in race five, when the $19 shot defeated the $1.07 favourite by a head. Trained by Ryan Cummins and driven by Maddison Brown, the in form five-year-old made it two in a row, taking out Monday’s race in a mile rate of 1:59:0.
