The Races WA Awarded Exhibitor of the Year for ‘Best Presented Site’ at Perth Royal Show
The Races WA’s virtual horse racing experience has taken out the prestigious 2021 Exhibitor Award for ‘Best Presented Site’ at this year’s Perth Royal Show.
The giant six-metre-round digital racecourse has not only caught the attention of thousands of showgoers but has also impressed Event Services Australia, who presented the award to Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) last night.
The animation provides showgoers with the chance to race alongside some of Western Australia’s leading jockeys. However, the virtual race is presented with a slight twist, as the on-screen jockeys swap out their trusty steads for a pogo stick, Segway, chicken or quokka.
The adventurous can also mount up and test their ability on a horse simulator used by jockeys to improve fitness and technique.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia Head of Marketing Katie Roberts said that the honour was a testament to the racing industry.
“We are incredibly proud and humbled to be recognised as one of the exhibitors of the year at the 2021 Perth Royal Show,” Katie said.
“It’s out first time at the show and it felt like a natural fit for racing with the connection to regional Western Australia and animals.”
“The Races WA activation captures the sheer thrill and excitement of horse racing, and the joy that it brings to all of those involved.”
“The virtual racecourse is just a glimpse of what is expected for this year’s summer racing carnival, which begins on 9 October at Ascot Racecourse.”
“We encourage everyone to head down to the races, to experience it first-hand, because life’s better with horses!”
The digital racecourse will be open from 10am to 6pm daily at the Perth Royal Show, with related attractions including carnival videos from Ascot Racecourse, photo opportunities with life-sized racehorse model Henry and Off the Track WA activities.
The Races WA activation forms part of a state-wide campaign to promote the 36 thoroughbred racetracks across Western Australia.
Racing in Western Australia contributes more than $821 million to the State’s economy each year and it plays a vital role in local communities, involving more than 24,000 people.
