Trigg Point Boardriders Awarded Community TAB Sports Grant
Racing and Wagering Western Australia’s (RWWA) Community TAB has awarded Trigg Point Boardriders with a $2,000 sports grant.
The club will use the grant to travel to New South Wales to represent Western Australia in the National Finals of the Boardriders Surf Battle, which the club qualified for after winning the State competition.
Trigg Point Boardriders Vice President/Treasurer Luke Campbell said the club has been around since 1969, but over the last five years has gone into a dormant period.
“One positive about the COVID-19 pandemic is a lot of our members, new and old, have had the time to talk and catch up with a goal to reinvigorate the club and get things rolling again. However, the only thing we have had shortage of is funding to kick it off, as we haven’t been able to have contests and fundraisers due to the current climate,” Luke said.
“As a club we represent both young and old, male and female, members who have basically grown up around the wider area of Trigg or who have come into the club via friendships that have flourished through surfing, fishing, diving, music, work, fashion. We have all come together to take part in club activities around the local area both in the ocean and out.”
“Everyone looks out for each other and their families and the areas we live in, so we and future generations can enjoy for years to come.”
“A big thanks to the crew at Community TAB for getting around ourselves and other community entity’s and all Trigg Point Boardriders members who got this club started up all those years ago in 1969.”
RWWA Chief Executive Officer Ian Edwards said the organisation recognises the importance of grassroots sport in Western Australia.
“We are honoured to be supporting local sporting clubs to ensure they can continue to play a vital role in their community,” Ian said.
“Grassroots sporting clubs not only provide important benefits for individual wellbeing, but they also bring people from the local community together.”
Applications are now open for all Western Australian sporting clubs, allowing communities from all corners of the State to apply for financial support.
Community TAB will be providing two sporting clubs with a grant each month, with applications able to be submitted here.
