Vultan Tin Faces Tricky Bunbury Assignment
Tough pacer Vultan Tin will have to replicate a performance every bit as good as what he produced in yesterday’s Access Cleaning Services Pinjarra Cup (2692m) in Friday’s Furphy-Bunbury Cup (2569m).
The Phil Costello-trained pacer drew barrier nine as he looks to make it two $50,000 wins in the space four days and complete the unique WA Pacing Cup-Pinjarra Cup-Bunbury Cup treble in the space of three months.
Vultan Tin will follow out last start winner Alta Rhett, who has barrier two for the Group 2 feature.
The Bird Dance, fresh from his win first-up on February 12 at Free-For-All level, has drawn barrier one as one of two Greg and Skye Bond-trained runners in the race.
The evergreen Our Jimmy Johnstone is the other team Bond runner in the race and has the outside of the backline in barrier 12.
Bletchley Park, who was unplaced in the Pinjarra Cup, is the only other runner on the quick turnaround from Monday and has drawn barrier three.
As well as Bletchley Park, trainer Stephen Reed also has Lord Rosco in the race and will start from barrier eight.
Major Times looms as the most intriguing runner in the race for trainer Ross Olivieri, following his impressive display at Gloucester Park last Friday night.
The six-year-old will start from barrier four, while Has No Fear, runner-up to Major Times last week, will start from barrier five.
Off the back of Vultan Tin’s success yesterday, driver Emily Suvaljko said the nine-year-old wouldn’t have any issue handling the back-up.
“The Costello’s are happy with him and said he’ll back-up nicely,” she told TABradio.
“He loves the distance at Pinjarra and he will love it again at Bunbury.
“He’s definitely the class horse leading into the Bunbury Cup.”
Yesterday’s win took Vultan Tin’s earnings through the $900,000 mark and Suvaljko said there was no reason he couldn’t become a seven-figure stakes winning horse.
“Fingers crossed, being an older horse, everything stays good with him,” she said.
“There’s been no indicators yet to suggest he won’t keep battling on.”
Friday night’s Bunbury Cup meeting gets underway at 6.03, with the Furphy-Bunbury Cup to jump at 8.05.
