In a record time of less than two hours, 48 retired Western Australian greyhounds found their new homes today, as part of the GAP National Adoption Day at the Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) facility in Southern River.
The event attracted over 220 potential adoptees and their families looking to support and help find all available greyhounds their forever home.
Renowned veterinarian and animal welfare advocate, Dr Garnett Hall, who was named the 2019 Western Australian ambassador for the GAP National Adoption Day, was thrilled with the success of the event.
“I could not be happier with the outcome of today’s event. Greyhounds truly do make perfect pets because they are very adaptable and suited to a variety of environments, which we have seen today as every greyhound available for adoption today was able to find a home,” said Dr Hall.
Following the success of the inaugural 2018 campaign, the GAP programs in all states today hosted an adoption day as part of a nation-wide push to boost awareness of greyhounds as pets, with a total of 207 greyhounds being adopted across Australia.
GAP WA is a program of Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA), promoting, encouraging and facilitating pet ownership to the wider community.
“RWWA is proud to be part of this nation-wide initiative, which sees all governing bodies come together in an effort to really shine a light on greyhounds as pets,” said RWWA CEO, Richard Burt.
