WA Racing Update – COVID-19
Please find below an important update on public health measures for COVID-19 within the WA racing community.
Updated Public Health Measures – From 31 January
In line with the WA Government’s expanded health measures, from 12.01am Monday 31 January 2022, the following will apply to all racetracks located in WA:
Proof of vaccination:
- All persons aged 16 years and over attending a race meeting must provide proof of being double dose vaccinated against COVID-19. This includes all patrons, industry participants, staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- PLEASE NOTE: This government direction applies to all persons (including licensed persons) and takes precedence over the RWWA Local Rule of Racing Vaccination that comes into effect as from 5 February 2022.
- All persons (including licensed persons) who cannot meet these requirements will be unable to enter any race meetings unless they have a valid medical exemption recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register or a temporary exemption issued to the person by the Chief Health Officer of Western Australia or their delegate.
- RWWA understands some temporary allowances may be made for staff who have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccination by 31 January 2022, but are awaiting their second. Once the government directions have been finalised we will provide an update in this regard.
- Any temporary exemptions issued by RWWA to licensed persons following written request, apply only to maintaining an active licence and do not enable entry to any person who cannot meet the above government requirement.
- RWWA therefore will not accept riders or drivers for those race meetings/venues where they have not confirmed with RWWA their eligibility to attend the venue.
Masks:
- Masks will be mandatory in all indoor areas at racetracks. RWWA recommends masks be worn outside where physical distancing is not possible. RWWA also requires masks to be worn in the following outside areas at all race meetings in WA:
- Greyhound racetracks: kennelling areas, parade areas, during the boxing of greyhounds and catching pens.
- Equine racetracks: mounting yards/parade rings and horse stalls during race meetings and trials.
Check-in:
- Check in using the SafeWA app, ServiceWA app or a manual contact register.
Information on how to show proof of vaccination at WA race meetings is available here.
RWWA Local Rule Vaccination
RWWA’s Local Rule Vaccination requires racing participants to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by 12.01am, 5 February 2022. RWWA has engaged a third-party provider, CredShare, to verify the vaccination status of licenced participants. Please ensure proof of vaccination is provided by Saturday 29 January 2022. If you have not received an email from CredShare, please first check your junk email folder. For further assistance please contact licreginfo@rwwa.com.au or (08) 9445 5558.
Stewards or other officials will be conducting proof of vaccination checks of any persons attending race meetings post-5 Feb through the approved methods. It is a serious offence for any person found to be providing fraudulent documentation which can result in severe penalties, including disqualification. Any such offences will also be referred to the WA Police.
