WA Racing Update – 2 June 2020
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) recognises that as part of Phase 3 of the WA Government’s roadmap to ease COVID-19 restrictions in the State, WA race clubs may be able to host up to 300 persons at their venues from Saturday, June 6.
As racecourses are owned and managed by their respective club, each individual club is responsible for managing bookings for patrons wishing to attend their venues. It is also at the discretion of each individual club as to whether they choose to offer on-course hospitality.
However, permitting access to 300 persons on-course must be in accordance with strict measures set out by the WA Government, including:
- Ensuring up to 100 patrons per single undivided space, up to a maximum of 300 patrons per premise (excluding staff).
- Complying with conditions outlined in the Phase 3 COVID Safety Guidelines.
- Ensuring a Phase 3 COVID Safety Plan is completed by the person responsible for the premises.
- Maintaining a minimum of 2 square metres per person.
- Maintaining hygiene and frequent cleaning processes.
- Maintaining attendance records of patrons for contact tracing.
- Carefully managing waiting areas to ensure physical distancing.
Please note that non-essential persons attending racetracks must pre-book their attendance, and will be provided a dedicated zone at the venue. Once on-course, patrons will be restricted to their respective zone for the duration of their visit, with no access to other zones or areas where essential personnel will be present (e.g. mounting yards, parade rings, horse stalls and kennelling areas).
Prior to opening their venues to non-essential persons, race clubs must consult with RWWA to ensure their COVID Safety Plans have appropriate measures in place to protect the safety of essential persons, and safeguard the continuation of racing in WA.
