WA Racing Update – COVID-19
The WA Government has announced that the public health rules for Perth and Peel will be extended until 6am Tuesday 4 January 2022, with additional measures to be put in place for Perth Cup at Ascot Racecourse, on Saturday 1 January 2022.
Perth Cup, Ascot Racecourse – Saturday 1 January 2022
Based on health advice, Perth Cup at Ascot Racecourse can proceed on Saturday 1 January 2022 with additional public health measures to ensure the event is able to continue safely, including:
- All individuals attending Perth Cup must provide proof of being double dose vaccinated against COVID-19. This includes all patrons, staff, contractors, volunteers and industry participants.
- Masks will be mandatory in all indoor and outdoor settings at the racecourse – except for jockeys while race riding.
- Seated food and beverage consumption only.

Other Race Meetings – Perth and Peel
For all other race meetings located within the Perth and Peel (excluding the Perth Cup), previously announced public health and social measures will remain in effect:
- Seated food and beverage consumption only at licensed hospitality venues, which includes any indoor hospitality service areas at racecourses in the Perth and Peel area.
- Masks are mandatory in all public indoor settings, including any indoor areas at racecourses in the Perth and Peel area.
- Masks are recommended for large outdoor events and where physical distancing is not possible – in line with this, RWWA has identified the following outside areas where masks will be required:
- Greyhound Racetracks:
- Kennelling areas
- Parade areas
- During the boxing of greyhounds
- Catching pens
- Equine Racetracks:
- Mounting yards/parade rings
- Horse stalls
- Check in using the SafeWA app or a manual contact register.
- Please note these requirements will also apply to anyone who has been in Perth or Peel since Thursday, 16 December and are travelling to a race meeting in a different part of the State.

All these measures will be reviewed regularly, and the Chief Health Officer will continue to monitor the serious situation and provide more ongoing advice.

Outside of the above requirements, race meetings, trials and trackwork will proceed as normal. However, please ensure appropriate physical distancing and good hygiene practices when on-course.
