WA Racing Update – COVID-19
The WA Government has announced that the Perth and Peel restrictions will end as planned at 12.01am, Sunday, 14 February. This means the whole of WA will return to the pre-lockdown conditions, as experienced prior to 6pm on Sunday, 31 January.
Following this announcement, Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) is pleased to advise that from 12.01am, Sunday 14 February, WA racing will resume under the below conditions:
Access to WA Racetracks
All WA racetracks will be able to re-open to the public under the two square metre rule.
As was the case before the lockdown, public or private events held at racetracks involving more than 500 patrons requires local government authority approval, and race clubs will need an approved COVID Event Plan as part of that process.
Mandatory Contact Tracing
Race clubs will be required to continue to maintain a mandatory contact register, in an electronic or written format, of any individuals attending their venues on race day. This includes industry participants, patrons, staff, volunteers and contractors.
WA race clubs have the right to deny entry to anyone who refuses to provide their contact information.
To help businesses and venues, the WA Government has developed the SafeWA app. This is a free system that uses QR codes to register attendance. It’s quick, convenient, easy to use and contactless. It’s not mandatory to use Safe WA, but it is encouraged. For more information on SafeWA including step by step instructions on how it works, click here.
Good Hygiene Practices & Physical Distancing
Masks will no longer be required to be worn at WA racetracks, from Sunday, 14 February. Individuals should continue to practise physical distancing where possible, maintain good personal hygiene at all times and get tested when unwell.

RWWA would once again like to thank all industry participants for their understanding and patience as we have navigated our way through the COVID-19 pandemic, and we look forward to being able to welcome patrons back on-course from this Sunday.
