WA reinswomen rally to support Team Teal
Seven WA reinswomen are racing to raise funds for ovarian cancer over the next six weeks in support of Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group’s (ANZGOG) 2020 Team Teal campaign.
Each time a race is won by a WA Team Teal driver, Community TAB will donate $200 towards the campaign benefitting research into ovarian cancers.
The seven reinswomen making up WA Team Teal are; Maddison Brown, Deni Roberts, Tonia Stampalia, Emily Suvaljko, Jocelyn Young, Lauren Jones and Madeleine Young.
Jocelyn Young, 26, and Deni Roberts, 24, are the 2020 Ambassadors proudly representing the WA wing of the campaign.
Jocelyn said she was thrilled to be selected as an ambassador to promote the cause and raise much needed funds for research into a type of cancer affecting many women in WA and their families.
“Ultimately it would be incredible if a cure could be discovered for ovarian cancer in the future, but until we get to that stage – we will do our part and raise as much money as we can for research over the next six weeks, and hope that we can make a difference”, she said.
“The campaign gives us some extra motivation to win, as well as getting some friendly competition going between each other and the other women taking part across Australia and New Zealand.”
“If we could exceed last year’s effort of $5,000 that would be a great start, and then possibly outdo some of the others states!”
Deni said she was grateful for the opportunity to take part in the Team Teal initiative.
“This campaign is a fantastic example of women coming together to support other women, and I’m very excited to be part of it,” she said.
“It is important for me to use this campaign to spread awareness of ovarian cancer and the prevention testing that is already available, so that we can reduce the amount of women who have to go through the tough battle of dealing with it.”
To support the campaign, the seven female drivers and all female clerks on course, will wear teal pants.
The campaign runs from 1 February to March 15, and funds raised will go towards ANZGOG’s Gynaecological Cancer Research Nurses Grant Program and the Survivors Teaching Students program.
Last year over 291 female drivers took part in campaign across Australia and New Zealand.
Community TAB kicked off the fundraising by making a $2,000 donation to the WA Team Teal. Donations can be made to support the campaign and the WA team at: https://www.womencan.org.au/fundraiser/teamtealwa
