West Coast Men’s and Mixed Netball Association awarded Community TAB Sports Grant
14 February, 2019
Community TAB of Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) has awarded West Coast Men’s and Mixed Netball Association (WCMMNA) a $4000 sports grant.
The Netball Association was one of two sporting clubs to receive a grant recently, selected from over 300 sporting clubs that applied from around WA.
The WCMMNA Sponsorship and Fundraising Manager Teresa Newton said receiving the grant means so much to the club.
“This grant helps us give back to our members who struggle to raise money on their own to get to Nationals every year, for instance this year is our highest cost so far for athletes at $2900 out of pocket and that’s not including airfares to Melbourne, so just having this grant allows us to purchase their shirts for them,” Ms Newton said.
“Men’s netball isn’t as hugely recognised as Women’s Netball and we struggle to get sponsorship but as the association is getting larger and the sport gets more competitive, we are hoping in the next five years this changes dramatically.”
“We are excited to have the Men’s and Mixed World Cup held right here in Perth next year, the movement is definitely starting.”
RWWA CEO Richard Burt said the organisation recognises the importance of grass roots sports throughout WA.
“We understand that it takes time and resources to keep a club running within the community, so we are pleased to be giving the opportunity to help relieve this burden on clubs,” Mr Burt said.
Community TAB will provide at least one grant each month to a sporting club to further their contribution to the sport and recreation industry in WA. Once a club applies for a grant, the application will stay within the pool until the grant is awarded.
Sporting clubs can apply for a grant at communitytab.com.au. Terms and Conditions apply.
