Westral Mares Classic Barrier Draw
Savvy Bromac looks well placed to score a maiden Group 1 win in this Friday’s Westral-Mares Classic (2536m), following this morning’s barrier draw.
The Nathan Turvey-trained mare came up with barrier one for the $125,000 feature and comes into the race as one of the in-form mares.
Her recent eighth in the Norms Daughter Classic was just the second time in 24 starts in WA she has finished outside the top five placings, but still managed to hit the line well on that occasion.

On that occasion, she led and finished second to Typhoon Banner.
Turvey said he would like to give the mare, best known for her sit and sprint qualities, a chance in front.
“If I get any say in what happens, I think she will be in front,” he told The Trots WA.
“She’s ready to win a race like this and she’s been prepared for it.
“I think she’s a good front runner and can deal with the pressure that comes.”
Royal Essence ensured Turvey would have a dual assault on the Group 1 event, with a stylish all the way win last Friday night.
The filly drew barrier three for the feature and Turvey predicted she maybe driven quieter this week.
“She’s a horse that didn’t look super impressive last week but if they went quicker, she would’ve won by the same margin,” he said.
“My initial thought with her was to probably to go back.”
Defending champion Balcatherine will have to navigate a path from barrier seven if she’s to win this year’s event.
Born To Boogie stamped herself as the mare to beat in the feature with a terrific win in the Group 2 Norms Daughter Classic on November 12.
Her chances of winning the Mares Classic took no harm in barrier 10 and will follow out Savvy Bromac.
Wainui Creek finished third in the Norms Daughter Classic and has drawn well again in barrier two.
