Young Guns set to star in Westchase Final
Some of WA’s most exciting young speedsters are set to showcase their talents in tonight’s Listed Westchase Final over the 520 metres at Cannington.
Emerging talent Manzu was the fastest qualifier for tonight’s feature winning his heat from box 8 last week in a Best Of Night time of 29.55 seconds.
The son of Vanderworp and Legit Boss has had 10 starts at Cannington for 8 wins and 2 seconds and again will come from the outside draw, a box he has had 3 times for 2 wins and a placing.
Trained by Margaret Hepple, Manzu has consistently run best of night or near best of night times every time he has visited headquarters.
Tonight he runs in to an incredibly talented bunch of rivals but with a safe getaway he deserves his place at the head of the market.
Maragaret Hepple’s other representative is Manzu’s littermate Valachi who finished runner up in 30.00 seconds in his heat.
Recent Paradise Street trophy winner Stout Monelli was lucky to qualify for the final after sneaking home in to fourth placing in his heat but his best work sees him as a serious threat.
The David Hobby trained chaser has won 16 of his 30 starts with a further 9 placings and his best times are very similar to those of Manzu.
The key for the son of Barcia Bale and Corona Monelli will be a safe getaway from the middle draw, a box he has had 6 times for 2 wins and 2 placings.
David Hobby’s other runner is Mambo Monelli who has a sticky draw to contend with in box six.
Serong in box two defeated Stout Monelli in their heat last week and the son of Fernando Bale is capable of running a slick first split to put himself in to the race.
Trainer Corey White has qualified three runners for tonight’s feature and will have Poppa Monno (box 1), Got The Sugar (box 3), and Got The Swagger (box 7).
It is a great training achievement from the young mentor and all three of his chasers can find their way to the podium with even luck in running.
In all it is a tremendously gifted young group of sprinters and it promises to deliver a stellar contest.
Both Manzu and Stout Monelli have proven themselves to be rare talents in their careers to date and loom as they key players but should they strike issues in the run any number of their rivals will be there to stake their claim.
Congratulations go to WA Trainer Michael Hine who tasted success at Albion Park on Thursday night with his chaser Wise Thunder running an excellent race to finish third behind Equalizer in the Group 1 Brisbane Cup final.
