You’re So Fine Impresses In Byford Trial
Golden Slipper favourite You’re So Fine tuned up for this week’s feature with a strong showing in a trial at Byford yesterday.
You’re So Fine scored a comfortable 13.7m win in the 2150m and is now set to make his WA debut in the $125,000 event on Friday.
Trainer Gary Hall Snr said he saw exactly what he wanted to see from the son of Always B Miki in the hit out, where he ran home in 58.7 for Gary Hall Jnr.
“We wanted to test his gate speed and he did that,” he said.
“Jnr didn’t open him up until the straight and he put four to five lengths on them really quickly.
“He’s got quite a bit of depth to him.”
The colt had three starts in New Zealand prior to joining Hall Snr’s stable, including a stylish win in the Group 2 Diamond Creek Farm Classic (2200m) in May.
His most recent start was in the 2YO Emerald on Jewels Day in Waikato, where he finished a credible fifth to Akuta.
Hall Snr said he felt he had the right horse to win the Golden Slipper, a race he won with Love Of Glory in 1989 and Beaudiene Boaz (2014).
“I’m confident he will go very well,” he said.
“I had Beaudiene Boaz win sitting outside Major Reality, now I’m not sure he’s as good as Beaudiene Boaz but he’s in that class.
“From what I’ve seen I think Jnr’s other possible drive Tricky Miki and Rock On Top, who would be hard to beat if he led, look pretty good.
“You can’t fault the filly Wonderful To Fly either.”
Meanwhile, Hall Snr said he would look to start impressive Friday night winner Gambit, pictured above, at Gloucester Park again this week.
The five-year-old made a big statement debut last Friday, where he sat in the breeze outside Pocket The Cash and eventually wore him down in 1.58.3.
Hall Snr said he expected significant improvement from Gambit going forward.
“He had trouble going the left-handed way in New Zealand,” he said.
“He’s also not a breeze horse and will be better when he can sit and sprint.
“He will keep on improving and I think he will be a Cups horse.”
The strong run for the Hall Snr stable continued at Pinjarra this afternoon, with Tricky Ric making it two wins from as many starts in the state.
The gelding eventually worked his way to the front from the back row draw and went on to score a comfortable 11.2m win.
