RWWA Stewards today resumed the adjourned Inquiry into Jockey T. Turner’s riding of SETTLERS CREEK in Race 7, the Budget Car & Truck Rental Handicap over 1300m at Belmont on Saturday, 28 July 2018.
The inquiry commenced following the race on 28 July with evidence taken from jockey Troy Turner and the gelding’s trainer and managing part-owner, Mr. Colin Webster. After taking statements and reviewing vision from the race the matter was adjourned with further evidence being heard today from Jockey T. Turner.
T. Turner was subsequently charged with an offence under ARR 135 (b) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that SETTLERS CREEK was given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible place in the field with the particulars of the charge as follows;
That after commencing very well and being positioned amongst the leaders he continually restrained SETTLERS CREEK for approximately 300 metres after the start causing it to lose considerable ground through the field and allow it to be positioned at the rear of the field when it was both reasonable and permissible to permit SETTLERS CREEK to stride freely in the early stages to allow the gelding to hold a prominent position within the field.
Jockey Turner entered a not guilty plea to the charge and the inquiry was subsequently adjourned to a time and date to be advised to allow him to present further evidence.
