The construction of new facilities at Pinjarra Paceway is gathering momentum, with the new state of the art stalls and stabling area on track to be completed by the end of the year.
Racing And Wagering Western Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Richard Burt joined Racing and Gaming Minister Paul Papalia at Pinjarra on Thursday to inspect the site and officially turn the first sod for the project.
The $2.8 million project will see 127 walk through stalls, a racing administration section, a trainers lounge, stewards offices and male and female driver change rooms installed.
It had been identified the current facilities at Pinjarra were in need of refurbishment with stewards currently working from a smaller room and the parade ring being a long way from the main grandstand.
Pinjarra Paceway hosts 48 meetings a year, predominantly on Monday’s, and Mr Burt said the upgrades to the facilities would prove to be beneficial to participants and punters.
“It’s a major project for the paceway,” he said.
“Pinjarra is, arguably, the number two venue to Gloucester Park.
“It’s an inner provincial venue that stands up very favourably from a punters point of view wagering wise, and it’s very well located for the participants.”
Mr Burt said the upgrades to Pinjarra were a key indicator the paceway would play an important role in harness racing in WA going forward.
Mr Papalia said he was pleased for industry participants they had new facilities to work in, and indicated it would be the start of an exciting time for racing in WA.
“There’s been a lot of preparation for this project,” he said.
“To see it coming to fruition now, it must be really exciting for the local people and the club.
“I’m happy it is happening for racing and it’s good for the local community.”
