The Chris Gangemi stable have added to their crop of ex-east coast gallopers, purchasing former Godolphin four-year-old Kennedy for $60,000 in yesterday’s Magic Millions Spring Racehorse Sale.
The Exceed And Excel gelding recorded two wins and seven placings from 15 starts in New South Wales and Victoria, with one of his best performances coming in a $100,000 sprint in January at Randwick where he was second to Group 3 winner Siege Of Quebec.
Owner Michael Gangemi said he had an eye on three Godolphin runners at the sale, but took a liking to Kennedy.
“It was my uncle Peter who instigated it,” he said.
“We went through the whole list in the sale and got a bit of mail from a few jockeys who work at Godolphin.
“We decided on Kennedy because he has just turned four and he has got his whole career ahead of him.”
Gangemi said Kennedy would likely have a lengthy spell, before a return to work after the Ascot carnival.
Meanwhile, Gangemi said Disposition had pulled up well from his third placing in Saturday’s Birthday Stakes (1200m), with Saturday week’s Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m) his next start.
“We were wrapped with him,” he said.
“There’s a lot of improvement left in him, he just peaked on his run 50 to 100 metres out.”
Heart Starter will also look to secure a Railway Stakes run alongside Disposition when he resumes in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) on November 3.
Lockroy, Super Maxi and Durendal will represent the Gangemi stable in the Listed Crawford Stakes (1000m) on Saturday week.
Gangemi said the trio would then head to the Group 3 Prince Of Wales (1000m) on November 3, but it was another ex-east coast runner which he was bullish about for that race.
“Saracino will also go to the Prince Of Wales, he is one I’m really excited about,” he said.
“He will trial with Heart Starter at Belmont on October 22.”
Meanwhile, the in-form Godolphin stable could be on their way back to Perth for the TABtouch Masters.
Head trainer James Cummings said last month’s Group 1 Epsom Handicap winner Hartnell headlined the list of runners that had Perth on the agenda.
“He’s not without a chance of turning up there in the Kingston Town,” he told TABradio
“Whether 1800m is just a fraction beyond what I’d like to run Hartnell, I’d still be making my mind up in his next run or two.
“Perhaps a horse like Tally for the Perth Cup would be a nice option.”
