Gloryland Fires Cup Warning

The Sean Casey-trained Gloryland has got back to his best form as his Broome Cup defence gets closer, taking out the Kimberley Cup (2020m) at Broome this afternoon in emphatic fashion.
After a disappointing performance in last week’s Cable Beach Caravan Park Cup (1800m), Gloryland bounced back brilliantly today, sitting just behind the speed set by I’m A Bluebagger and destroying his rivals.
This season, Gloryland won first-up over 1300m, before two minor placings leading into last week’s 1800m event.
The gelding was aided by a perfect ride from Simone Altieri, the first time she had ridden Gloryland this campaign.
Altieri allowed the gelding to stride clear by six lengths coming into the home straight, as race favourite Diamond Tonique tried to stick with him.
His efforts were to no avail though, as Gloryland recorded a dominant 10 length win.
Altieri finished the day on a high note as she steered Red Glow to victory in the Sanger Australia Handicap (1300m).
Meanwhile, Roger The Roman has finished fifth in the $135,000 Palmerston Sprint in Darwin.
Last year’s Broome Sprint winner was well fancied to take out the feature sprint event in the Northern Territory.
However, it was the Gary Clarke-trained Captain Punch who was too strong under the 60kg, winning by more than seven lengths.
It wasn’t all bad news for the West Australians at the Darwin meeting though with jockey Peter Hall, who rode Roger The Roman, teaming up with Toorak Road to take out the Magic Millions Handicap (1100m) earlier in the day.
