Reinsman Mark Reed is urging punters to be forgiving of Golden State’s performance in last week’s Four-Year-Old Classic at Pinjarra and give him another chance in this Friday’s four-year-old Championship (2130m) at Gloucester Park.
Golden State was beaten 34m by Jack Mac in the $25,000 event last week, while his stablemate Bechers Brook finished second.
Reed, who drove Maczaffair to victory in the TABtouch-York Cup last week, said he expected a much stronger showing from Golden State on Friday night.
“Golden State was very disappointing last start,” he said.
“Dad (Mike Reed) changed a bit of his gear in his work last week and he said he worked a lot better, so he will 100 per cent go a lot better than he did at Pinjarra.”
Reed said he would make his decision on whether to drive Bechers Brook or Golden State when barrier draws are released this afternoon.
“I’d be leaning towards Golden State if he drew better,” he said.
“If he drew the outside gate and Bechers Brook drew better I’d drive Bechers Brook.
“It’s a flip of the coin.”
Meanwhile, the Reed stable will also have progressive mare Our Angel Of Harlem make her return to the track on Friday night.
Our Angel Of Harlem finished third in the WA Oaks earlier this year, before a winter campaign which culminated in a gallant fourth placing in the Breeders Crown Three-Year-Old Fillies Final at Melton in August.
Reed said he expected a forward showing from Our Angel Of Harlem.
“She’s come back really well,” he said.
“She will run a great race on Friday as well even though she’s still underdone, dad hasn’t trialled her.
“She’ll be forward enough that she will be hard to beat.”
The Four-Year-Old Championship is the feature event on Friday night, while the support program includes the $25,000 Pat Cranley Memorial Pace.
