Malibu In Fine Style For Goodwood Says Parnham
Trainer Neville Parnham says Malibu Style’s consistency will take him a long way in his bid for a maiden Group 1 victory in the $750,000 Goodwood Handicap (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
Malibu Style is coming out of a strong second to I Am Someone in last fortnight’s Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m) at Warrnambool and according to Parnham will be at his peak for his Adelaide assignment.
“He is in great order and will head over to Adelaide on Thursday night, he is still in Melbourne,” Parnham told Tabradio.
“He has worked very well this week and has overcame a small issue with his foot leading into his last run.
“He ran terrific in the Wangoom down at Warrnambool and might have been a touch unlucky, but he was great in the race.
“The horse in front of him just drifted out a little and just might have just layed in a fraction.
“He’s been about the place against some pretty handy lots and this will be a big test for him against a Group 1 winner, Booker.
“Simon’s (Miller) horse (Valour Road) is going really well, but he never lets me down the horse.
“I think he will go really well in the race.”
Since 2017 Malibu Style has done the bulk of his racing in the eastern states because of feet issues caused by firmer Perth tracks.
He has won four races at Caulfield, Flemington and Sandown, including the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1200m) and Listed Doveton Stakes (1000m).
The Magnus gelding has drawn barrier 10 and will be ridden by Parnham’s son, Chris.
Malibu Style is a $23 chance behind market leader Spright ($3.80), Cool Passion ($6.50), Iconoclasm ($7.50), Booker ($9.50) and Jamaican Rain ($9.50).
