Trainer Corey White is hopeful history will repeat itself tonight when chaser Max Profit lines up in the WA Sprint Championship Final (520m) at Cannington.
Max Profit took out last year’s WA Sprint Championship, before going on to be unplaced in the final a fortnight later.
The star chaser finished second to Bundles Galore in his heat of the Sprint Championship last Saturday and is a $5.50 chance for tonight.
White told TABradio he hoped Max Profit would begin quickly from box three tonight and hold out favourite West On Augie for the lead.
“For sure, that’s the plan,” he said.
“Max has always found the 520 is his limit.
“He’s come undone in a few races where he’s been run down in the dying stages.
“He should be stronger than he was last week, but I don’t like these conditions.”
With wet conditions expected at Cannington tonight, White is concerned how Max Profit will handle the heavy track, but was confident he was a stronger chaser than 12 months ago.
“He’s definitely stronger, his run home is stronger than it used to be,” he said.
“He’s got that early speed, his first sections are very similar.
“I’ve noticed this time around that he is slightly stronger with his run homes.
“If it’s not wet and windy, I expect him to put on a good show.”
Meanwhile, Moment To Jive (pictured above) will be out to go one better than last year when she lines up in the WA Distance Championship Final (715m).
Moment To Jive was a surprise winner of the heat of the Distance Championship last Wednesday, as she was last year, before she went on to run second in the Final.
The Sarah Appleton-trained chaser has drawn box six for tonight’s Final, the same box she had for last week’s heat and Appleton said she wasn’t concerned about the draw given Moment To Jive has had to overcome similar draws in big races before.
“I think Jive can jump from anywhere,” she said.
“We want her to get around that first corner without wanting to get into too much trouble.
“Everyone who is speedy are on the inside and if she can lob behind a couple of them that will be ideal for her.”
Appleton also has Infrared Moment engaged in the Sprint Championship tonight and said she was surprised to get the chaser into a feature race final.
“He’s had five months off due to injury, so we didn’t think he’d race again,” she said.
The Distance Championship kicks off the Cannington meeting tonight at 7.34.
