Trainer Darryn Pateman can see a lot of similarities to last year with his Tabtouch-Carnarvon Cup (2000m) fancy Tell Me This.
Tell Me This is aiming to become the first horse since Palladium (1997-1998) to win the Carnarvon Cup in consecutive years.
12-months back Tell Me This won the Junction Cup (1900m), en route to taking out the Carnarvon Cup by a short-neck.
After posting his second Junction Cup victory three weeks ago, Pateman is optimistic Tell Me This can repeat history.
“I’m hoping he can do it again and follow last year’s path,” Pateman said.
“He has been there and done it previously.
“He is jumping out of his skin and loving life at the beach.
“He is very fit and I can’t get him prepared any better.
“He has an enormous record at the track.
“He goes in with a great chance.”
Tell Me This, with five wins and 11 placings from 23 starts in Carnarvon, has drawn barrier 12. Simone Altieri has been book to ride the nine-year-old.
The Hold That Tiger gelding leads a two pronged attack for Pateman with stable mate Megafactory out to budge a distance query.
The Not A Single Doubt seven-year-old is better renowned as a short course sprinter with all of his five career wins at 1200m.
But his previous start in the Peter Evans Memorial (1700m), when 2 ¼ length third to Me Hungi, gave Pateman confidence.
“He got held up, but finished off really well,” Pateman said.
“Importantly he settled and didn’t pull.
“We are stepping him up and trying something different.”
In a field of 14 starters Megafactory, to be ridden by Kate Fitzgerald, will jump from barrier seven.
Tabtouch has Tell Me This rated an $8 chance with Megafactory at $14.
Heading the market is Perth-trained Beg To Differ ($2.75).
