If Saturday’s Belmont meeting was anything to go by, the famous cerise and white colours of owner-breeder Bob Peters are set to be crossing the line first in plenty of feature races over the coming months.
Peters had three winners on Saturday, including impressive Maiden winner Battle Storm and his team is only going to get stronger as the carnival approaches.
Despite the impressive nature of his WATC Derby win in April, Peters said he was pessimistic about Action’s chances of taking out a feature race this campaign as a four-year-old, but was confident he would improve.
“He’s good, we did a bit of work on him here (at Peters’ farm),” he told TABradio.
“Hopefully he might have improve a little bit.
“I’m a bit dubious about the Derby, because I had a few males win the Derby and they didn’t do much afterwards.”
Peters said he hoped Action’s full brother Regal Power would step up to be one of his leading three-year-old’s this season.
Meanwhile, unbeaten sprinter Enticing Star will likely start her Winterbottom Stakes campaign in the Listed Birthday Stakes (1200m) at Belmont on October 6.
“Her main aim is the Winterbottom, but that depends on her first run,” Peters said.
“She had a spell and she’s been back in work for a few weeks now.
“She will trial in two weeks and run in the Birthday Stakes.”
Another of Peters’ impressive gallopers over the early part of the Belmont Park season was Galaxy Star, who is expected to return to the track on opening day at Ascot on October 20.
Peters said he also expected Last year’s Perth Cup winner Star Exhibit to target the Group 1 Railway Stakes and Kingston Town Classic over the carnival.
“He came home with a chip in one of his joints which we’ve taken out,” he said.
“We have given him plenty of time and he’s back in work now.”
Star Exhibit last ran in the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) at Randwick last October.
