WA COUNTRY CUPS
The WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field ‘Goldfields Regional Heat’ was held at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club’s Ladies Day on Wednesday 3 October.
30 ladies entered Fashions on the Field, for their chance to score a spot in the WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field Final.
Stacey Paterson was the lucky winner of the Goldfields Regional Heat, followed by Andrea Buchanan as first runner up and Jennifer Abraham as second runner up.
Ms Paterson will now go on to compete in the WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field Final to be held at Perth Racing on Saturday, December 1.
WA Country Cups caught up with Ms Paterson to talk about country racing and racing fashion, as well as the upcoming final, here is what she had to say:
1. What do you love about country racing? I love country racing for many reasons but my excitement increases as the season progresses. The weather improves, the sun comes out and the community starts to enjoy each other’s company again after a cold winter. As the round approaches, I’m enthralled in the thrill of the process of putting together an outfit, hair and millinery. Not just for myself but equally for my clients (I’m a self-employed hairdresser). I love the anticipation that a country cup has on everyone. Definitely winning dates in the calendar.
2. How long have you been going to the races for and what are some of your favourite memories? I’ve been attending the races for my whole adult life, but my fondest memory would definitely be standing next to my best friend in fashions on the field in the top ten this year. We’ve entered many times and one of us will make top ten but never together. What makes it even better is that she was right beside me the moment I was announced the winner, I was so shocked I stood out to receive my sash but had to go back to her for a hug. To discover this moment was captured in a photo was a true blessing.
3. Why do you enter Fashions on the Field? I enter FOTF because I feel like it’s an extension of my passion for the hair and beauty industry and a healthy obsession with head wear. The excitement of following trends and pushing the boundaries of those trends to create my own uniqueness.
4. Describe your style. My style is definitely eclectic, it’s ever evolving but there’s always a hint of yesteryear somewhere.
5. What tips do you have for people entering Fashions on the Field? My advice to those wanting to enter would be to research racing do’s and don’ts. The brief is specific and will help to narrow down an outfit. On the day, enjoy yourself! Have fun and appreciate the effort everyone has put in. Be humble and proud that you have given it a go!
6. What are some of your favourite things about the Goldfields region? I truly love Kalgoorlie, I’m not from here originally but I definitely call it home. The sense of community and support I have make it a great place to work and live. There’s nothing better than a purple, blue and pink sunset over the red dusty plains.
7. What does it mean to you to be going to ascot to compete in the final? It’s been a difficult year for me in many ways. But to be able to show my daughter that with a kind heart and sheer determination, good things do happen to good people. I’m so proud and honoured that my happiness is shining from the inside out and that it has been recognised.
