Well-travelled chaser Techno will aim up at the Northam Cup after taking out yesterday’s feature event at Northam, the Greyhounds WA Avon Valley Challenge Final over 588 metres.
Techno took luck out of the equation by rolling straight to the front and from that point onwards rivals had their work cut out chasing him down.
Techno recorded splits of 10.28 and 22.51 before stopping the clock at 35.04 defeating Bushman’s Luck by 5.75 lengths with a further three quarters of a length back to Cairnlea Ollie who was in third position.
Trainer Steve Withers was pleased with the effort handed in by the son of Barcia Bale. “He hadn’t seen the track when runner-up in his heat last week and I thought he would improve with the benefit of that experience. That proved the case today and he showed what he is really capable of.”
The Avon Valley Challenge Final is a race that has thrown up mixed results for the Withers kennel in recent years. “We were fortunate enough to win this race three years ago with Soviet Missile and then in last year’s final luck deserted us when Serena Fly High landed close in second position before falling.” Withers said.
Techno will now progress on towards the Northam Anniversary Cup Heats next Monday. “He is a versatile dog so there should be no problem dropping him back down to the 509 metres for the Anniversary Cup next week.” Withers concluded.
Techno has been a journeyman throughout his 68 start career racing in New South Wales, the ACT, Queensland, Darwin and WA on his way to 16 wins and prizemoney of more than $72,000.
“The dog came to me from Jodie Lord in NSW and was then purchased by the Punters HQ Syndicate. They are a great bunch of Owners who have been very supportive.” Withers went on to say.
