Bundles Galore’s win in the heat of the WA Sprint Championship (520m) last weekend has given trainer Morgan Turner plenty of confidence his chaser is up to the class of some of his rivals ahead of the Final tomorrow night.
Bundles Galore stormed into contention for tomorrow night’s feature with a dominant three length win over Max Profit.
The son of Dyna Nalin was away slowly in his heat, before he was able to make up ground along the rail and secure his spot in the final.
Turner said he had to be patient easing Bundles Galore back to full health and fitness after suffering a broken hock earlier this year.
“He’s the best we have had him,” Turner said.
“He’s improving every week and he’s happy.
“I don’t think he ever lost confidence, he’s always put in 100 per cent.”
Bundles Galore has been installed a $4 second favourite with TABtouch for tomorrow night’s event, behind West On Augie ($1.85) who won the second heat last week.
Turner said while Bundles Galore’s box draw in seven wasn’t ideal for tomorrow night, he remained confident his star chaser was smart enough to overcome it.
“90 per cent of the time he is out of the boxes last,” he said.
“He’s a very good dog at navigating.
“We have got box eight so many times and he tried to rail all the time.
“He’s learned now that if he can’t get across he can stay out wide.”
With heavy rain forecast for tomorrow night, Turner said he expected that to suit Bundles Galore but added West On Augie was the one to beat.
“I think Max Profit and West On Augie are the obvious leaders,” he said.
“If West On Augie leads we will struggle to run him down, but if he misses the jump we will be right in it.”
For Turner, tomorrow night’s feature would be worth so much more than a win.
A relatively fresh face on the Greyhound racing scene, Turner is only training part time and is hopeful a win tomorrow night would boost his claims of becoming a full time trainer.
Turner described getting his full time licence as “light at the end of the tunnel” as he balances working for a mining company and training greyhounds resulting in work weeks of up to 80 hours.
He said he had received plenty of support his wife Karis as well as Dave and Christine Robartson and he now had every chance to claim feature race victories.
“It would be great to represent our state,” he said.
“It’s what we’re aiming for, to win races like this.
“We’ve built the kennels up with a fair amount of dogs so we need to start winning some of our bigger races.”
The WA Distance and Sprint Finals get underway from 7.34pm tomorrow.
